Fun day...

Had fun today at home working on my little hooked piece. I think I have the best time when I don't plan anything out before hand. I just had my basket of wool strips and hooked away.

This little doll will get some arms tonight. Her interesting hair came from some linen that I washed and left this tangled mess of fibers...thought it might make some good doll hair. I think I will make a bunch of dolls with ethnic fabric bodies, it's so nice to work with handwoven fabric.

Association of Creative Females meeting

Monday night we had our monthly rug hooking meeting at Penny's wonderful home. Matisse, Penny's cat made herself at home in Maren's wool basket.
Maren worked on her "Thrasher" rug.
Penny"s "one color" piece came out nicely...she choose dark grey. This will be the beginning of a wall series, each one attached to a canvas.
Barbara's beautiful ''One color" piece in blue green. She used a "Gaudi" tile for her design.
Here are some of the girls in Penny's living room. The calendars got passed out and everyone was pleased with how they turned out.

Miss Kitty and our Calendars!

This is Miss Kitty. She has on her favorite apron. She loves to bake cookies for the neighborhood kitties.
And a spot of tea, perhaps?
These are the calendars that I had made for our Rug Hooking group. I had to make two different versions because we have more than 12 members. I am happy with how they came out and hope everyone likes them as much as I do.

Meet "Octavia"......

Octavia is a shy, velvety octopus who showed up the other day. She wants to go to Artfest and meet other Octopods with similar interests.
The theme this year is "sea monsters" and quite a few octopi are showing up. I have a few more ideas in mind. Now I know why I have saved that box of velvety fabrics in my art studio. Haven't decided whether Octavia needs those little "suction cups" on her tentacles...could sew on buttons or little felt circles...still thinking about it....

And below is a fabric collage I put together last night.....and we have our rug hooking meeting this coming Monday night so I better get started on something! I had two calendars made for our group with our own rug hooking photos for each month and can't wait to see how they turned out. I am hoping they come in the mail today or Monday before meeting time. I used "Qoop" that I found on the "Flickr" site....hope everyone likes them!

What I've been working on...

I made four wooly totes out of a soft recycled blanket from Finland. I sold 2 at Artfiberfest and had these two left. I recently got to work on them and did more embroidery work on this one and totally revised the one below. I just sent them off to Somerset to see if they can use them in one of their magazines.

Another little hooked house wall piece that I sent to Jill Berry. We are doing an art exchange.
So happy she is coming to Artfest this year! She is a great book artist and teacher.
A funny little doll with a hat to keep her warm in this Artic weather.

Cookies,Cupcakes, Socks, and Totes!

Custom made cookies from Susan Halme and her Solvang Bakery. She put Syd's trademark message on our cookies...I ate mine when I got home and it was delicious!

Syd and I celebrated our birthdays this month at the Art Clinic with out art girl friends. Syd had lunch waiting for us...curried chicken sandwiches, mixed green salad, her special punch and I brought a dozen cupcakes from new place in town called "Crushcakes"...so yummy!
The Clinic mascot....
We asked for "Socks" for our birthday gift this year. Everyone brought more than one pair for each of us...these are some of Syd's socks.
And look at all of these beauties! I am putting on a new pair every day..Thanks everyone!

Colleen, Susan H. and Maren looking at one of our funny birthday cards.
We even had an art project for everyone to do. We made oilcloth totes...made with staples and duct tape...no sewing! We had seen it on Martha Stewart and it looked like a quick and easy thing to do....eveyone managed to make at least one and they all came out so bright and cheerful.
Penny is modeling a couple of the totes and she even made a little lunch bag to take to work.
Susan B. with two more totes.
Maren gave me this wonderful felted pillow from Kata Golda...I love the soft colors of her plant dyed felt.
The happy birthday girls!
Sunday-no rain yet, so we took a hike on the historic Fremont Trail, just minutes from our mountain top home. Snow topped mountains in the distance and miles of wilderness....
